the second pressure stems from their peer groups. finding that their classmates are staying up late, many students will feel guilty if they do something else. they think the only way to overcome the fear of being left behind the others is to study even harder. the last pressure derives from the competition in finding a job after graduation. there is a sharp increase in the number of college graduates in job markets in recent years, making it hard for college students to find jobs. many students believe that the more knowledge they learn now at college, the more chance they will have in finding a job in the future on the job market.

Undergrad"s rate their iPods as more "in" than beer

SAN JOSE, California (AP) -- College life is not just about drinking beer.

In a rare instance, Apple Computer Inc."s iconic iPod music player surpassed beer drinking as the most "in" thing among undergraduate college students, according to the latest biannual market research study by Ridgewood, New Jersey-based Student Monitor.

Nearly three quarters, or 73 percent, of 1,200 students surveyed said iPods were "in" -- more than any other item in a list that also included text messaging, bar hopping and downloading music.

In the year-ago study, only 59 percent of students named the iPod as "in," putting the gadget well below alcohol-related activities.

This year, drinking beer and , a social networking Web site, were tied for second most popular, with 71 percent of the students identifying them as "in."

The only other time beer was temporarily dethroned in the 18 years of the survey was in 1997 -- by the Internet, said Eric Weil, a managing partner at Student Monitor.

Though beer might soon regain its No. 1 spot, as it quickly did a decade ago, the iPod"s popularity is still "a remarkable sign," Weil said. "For those who believe there"s an excessive amount of drinking on campus, now there"s something else that"s common on campuses."

Student Monitor conducted the survey the week of March 6, interviewing full-time undergraduate students at 100 U.S. colleges. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.3 percentage points.

Secondly, it is inevitable to chat on study in bed. Bedtime chat helps with academic development in that it makes up for what each has missed in their daytime lessons. Thirdly, bedtime chat helps broaden students' horizon. This is especially true when the roommates are of a diverse set in terms of culture and geography. Different customs reflecting a different culture and different scenery representing their respective geographical conditions are referred to and shared in their chat, which is not only enjoyable but also beneficial. However, one can never neglect the fact that a bedtime chat carried on for too long will eat much into their time for sleep and affect study the following day.

In a word, I firmly believe that bedtime chat in dorms at college has much more advantages than disadvantages only if it doesn't go on for too long.
